We’re ready for the challenge

Housing Crisis Center is thrilled to announce we’ve been selected to participate in Dallas Business Club’s Nonprofit Hackathon! Along with the Austin Street Center and the AIDS Outreach Center, we will be working with a group of prestigious Dallas MBAs to tackle some of our most pressing issues. This inaugural event, hosted by SMU’s Cox School of Business and Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business in partnership with VolunteerNow, takes place Saturday, August 29.

What an incredible opportunity for the Housing Crisis Center! We are honored and can’t wait to participate in this groundbreaking event.

David’s story

For more than 20 years David was addicted to cocaine. In 2012, he lost four jobs, was evicted four times, and finally went to jail. After getting out of jail, David was living in a tent, spending his days looking for ways to get drugs. His life hit rock bottom and he turned to the Salvation Army for help. Motivated by an upcoming visit from his son, who’s in the military, David decided to take the next step on the path to regaining his self-respect. A friend introduced him to Program Manager Gina Norman of the Housing Crisis Center and David was accepted into HCC’s Rapid Rehousing Program. Get ready for North Texas Giving Day 2015

Mark your calendars for September 17! That’s the day that your contribution to Housing Crisis Center goes further. North Texas Giving Day is a once-a-year, online event that helps local nonprofits raise as much money as possible. From 6 a.m. to midnight, donations through www.northtexasgivingday.org/#npo/housing-crisis-center bring additional funds to HCC. We believe no one should suffer the indignity of homelessness. Through our permanent supportive housing programs 29 families and individuals have a permanent place to call home. In addition, our new rapid rehousing programs get 61 families off the streets and help them on the path to self-sufficiency. Through our programs, more than 200 children are off the streets, out of shelters, and in safe, secure homes. No contribution is too small. Gifts between $25 and $50,000 bring Housing Crisis Center additional funds. On September 17, please visit our North Texas Giving Day page and give to help us help them. And don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter on September 17, so you can share in the excitement!
