Volunteer Attorneys Who Donate Their Time at Legal Workshops
Legal Education and Services was the Housing Crisis Center's first program to prevent homelessness in Dallas.
Initiated in 1978, the program provides free access and advice to tenants facing legal struggles with their landlord.
For the past 29 years, this program has been successful due to the partnerships we have developed with various law firms and other independent attorneys.
The Housing Crisis Center thanks all of our partners and over 150 volunteer attorneys who volunteer their time and talents each Wednesday evening and Saturday morning.
Dallas law firms include:
Akin Gump
Baker Botts, L.L.P.
Hughes & Luce
Hunton & Williams
Locke, Lidell, & Sapp
Thompson & Knight
Phil and Lorraine Simpson, Long-Time Supporters
Phil and Lorraine Simpson have supported the Housing Crisis Center since the very beginning – when it was the
Dallas Tenants Association- when it was the developing vision of founder Dorothy Masterson. And over HCC’s 25 years, they have contributed in many ways- through financial gifts, donations of art, and by serving as the honorary chairs of the
Art & Antiques Auction and Gala. In addition, Phil and Lorraine have been ambassadors for the agency and agency clients, sharing the mission and successfully recruiting others to also provide significant support for our programs and services.
Lorraine and her family have a long history in the arts, being the founders and owners of the Meinhard Galleries in Houston and later in Dallas. This interest and experience, coupled with their desire to give, made support of the Art and Antiques Auction a very natural “fit” – and what a wonderful “fit” it has been for HCC! After the closing of the Meinhard showroom in Dallas, many items were donated to the Housing Crisis Center to insure the continued success of our fundraising efforts.
“We are intimately aware of the important services provided by the Housing Crisis Center”, says Lorraine. In fact, they remember when Lorraine’s mother, Mrs. Meinhard, had a serious conflict with a landlord. “If someone with significant resources can experience that kind of crisis, we know that there are many, many families in Dallas who would suffer without the free services offered by Housing Crisis Center.”
When asked about their motivation to give, Lorraine states, “it’s in our Bible;
1 John 3:16–18. It’s very simple, but beautiful: ‘…let us not love with words or tongue, but with actions and in truth’.”
Thank you! Phil and Lorraine, for sharing your love with those who are in tremendous need
